New York TimesIn a story about the U.S. State Department’s recent warning of a new terrorist group in Africa, The New York Times turns to Dartmouth’s Daniel Benjamin for his thoughts about the concerns surrounding Algerian militant Mokhtar Belmokhtar.

“He is a more adventurous, perhaps even more reckless operator than the A.Q.I.M. (Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb) leadership has shown itself to be,” says Benjamin, the Norman E. McCulloch Jr. Director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding and the former top counterterrorism official for the U.S. State Department. “And that translates into a threat.”
