Cognitive Science and Italian. Fundación Runa, Ecuador
Evan is a member of the Class of 2013 and on campus is the business manager for the Dodecaphonics (an a cappella group), a Drill Instructor for Italian, and a member of the Hill Winds Society. This fall Evan will be going to Tena, Ecuador to work on sustainable development with Runa, a company that collaborates with local farmers to grow guayusa, a type of tea plant. He will be working on projects related to environmental management and conservation, community development, and social empowerment, such as creating new guayusa plots to provide a more stable source of income for local farmers and working to ensure that community initiatives are effectively implemented.
Evan is excited to develop his Spanish skills and work in a cross-cultural environment with both local Ecuadorians and international interns. And with his studies of psychology and linguistics under the cognitive science major he looks forward to immersing himself in a completely new culture and learning about how guayusa plays a part in community interactions and communication.
