The Dickey Center War & Peace Studies Program recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary over Homecoming Weekend 2008. War & Peace Fellow Alumni and guests were invited to a gala at the new Dickey Center at Haldeman Center on October 17, 2008. The program included a Panel Discussion by former Fellows and was followed by a Champagne Buffet Reception in the Russo Gallery, with a special performance by The Dartmouth Aires.

Meredith Wilson '07
Meredith Wilson '07, a former War & Peace Fellow, majored in Government at Dartmouth and now works for the Department
of Defense as an Iraq political analyst. From April through August 2008, she served in Iraq as a Governance Team subject matter
expert. Highlights of her Iraq tour included researching in Iraqi Kurdistan and briefing both General Petraeus and Ambassador
Crocker. Wilson received the Spotlight of the Year Award from DIA's Middle East/North Africa Division in July 2008.
Alexios Nicolaos Monopolis '03
Alexios' background is in environmental science, international relations and photojournalism. He has three master's degrees from Oxford University and the University of California in those fields, was a Fulbright Scholar and is currently in graduate school at Harvard University (completing a fourth master's and finishing his Ph.D). Alexios has worked as a search and rescue professional (taking part in several operations around the globe ranging from Ground Zero to Sri Lanka post-tsunami), as a photojournalist, and as a wilderness guide. He has also worked for the White House Council on Environmental Quality and as the International Political
Advisor for the organization charged with the development of the only international "peace park" in the Balkans. In that capacity, he assisted in the diplomatic mission, conservation initiatives, sustainable development projects, and the research, writing and negotiation of a tri-national management plan between Greece, Albania and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Ellen Pfeiffer '01
Ellen Pfeiffer graduated from Dartmouth in 2001 with a History Major. After graduation, she won a Fulbright Fellowship to research
religious renewal in post-Soviet Russia and then enrolled as a graduate student in Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies at Harvard University. After graduate school, Pfeiffer worked for the U.S. Department of Energy at the National Nuclear Security Agency, working on projects to keep former W.M.D. scientists in Eurasia, Libya, and Iraq employed in civilian endeavors. She also began work for Amnesty International as a Russia specialist. Recently, Ellen relocated to Boston where she is continuing her work with Amnesty International and working as a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee.
Welton Chang '05
Army Captain Welton Chang, a Dartmouth Class of 2005 Government major, and former War and Peace Fellow, returned from a 15 month deployment to Iraq in September 2008. He spent the majority of the tour in various parts of northern Iraq focused on targeting
insurgent networks and foreign fighters. Just prior to serving in Iraq, Chang served in South Korea for a year. Chang was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Iraq.
