The Bibi Jann School with the Bibi Jann Children’s Care Trust in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania provides primary school education for children up to fifth grade. Students receive two meals a day in addition to medical and dental care. Dartmouth students help both with the school and with the Grandma-to-Grandma project, a program that aids grandmothers to support their grandchildren who have been orphaned by AIDS. The Grandma-to-Grandma project seeks to help the grandmothers become self-sufficient through community mobilization, business skill training, and support for craft sales and other small business ventures.
