Richard D. Lombard Public Service Fellowships
With the Tucker Foundation, the Dickey Center administers the Richard D. Lombard, '53 Public Service Fellowship program. The Lombard Fund supports up to a dozen young alumni each year to undertake six to twelve month volunteer community service projects in the United States and around the world.
At clinics in Peru, Nepal, and on the Thailand-Burma border, in an orphanage for HIV+ children in Nairobi, at a foundation working for the empowerment of women in rural Argentina or an organization ensuring legal rights for foreign domestic workers in London, for over a decade alumni have been putting into practice the liberal arts education they received at Dartmouth.
OVERVIEW
The Richard D. Lombard Public Service Program was established by family and
friends in memory of Mr. Lombard, a 1953 Dartmouth graduate and former Trustee
of the College. The Program provides grants to "encourage and
enable Dartmouth alumni to use their education to make a significant positive
impact on society."
Under the Program, graduating seniors and first-year alumni may be awarded up
to $15,000 for 6-month (minimum) or longer (one year
maximum) service projects. Fellows may serve in the United States or
abroad.
When you have identified a service project which suits your interests and
skills, the next step is to complete an application form. Two
letters of recommendation are required. One of these must be
written by a Dartmouth College faculty member. The letters of
recommendation should be sent c/o the Lombard Program to the Dickey Center.
Applications will be assessed by the Lombard Fellowship Selection Committee
