The Dartmouth Global Health Initiative (GHI) PDF Print E-mail

Overview

Dartmouth's Global Health Initiative is a center for curricular, co-curricular and experiential opportunities for students to develop their interest and skills in global health. Our research and internship opportunities are tailored to the educational and career goals of undergraduate, graduate and professional school students. The multidisciplinary nature of GHI allows us to work closely with students and faculty from across Dartmouth's campus in addition to faculty based at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. We continue to support and expand student opportunities through stong institutional connections that reflect faculty research and student interests. In addition to internships and courses, GHI also offers the "Dickey Center Certificate in Global Health" that recognizes students for the completion of selected coursework and a capstone project in global health.

History

GHI was founded in 2005 by the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding and Dartmouth Medical School and works in partnership with the Tuck School, the Thayer School and the Arts & Sciences. In 2009, GHI was awarded a NIH, Fogarty Frameworks grant in Global Health to support the expansion of curricular and co-curricular offerings in global health as well as a grant from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. to support engineering projects in Tanzania that address specific regional health problems through education and innovative solutions.
