We joined the Center for Global Health Equity in hosting Dr. Peter Kilmarx D’83, MED’90 (Acting Director of the NIH Fogarty International Center) for a motivational deep dive into the future of global medical research.
For our MPH and Geisel medical students, the session provided a transparent “roadmap” for navigating the complex landscape of federal research funding. Dr. Kilmarx highlighted specific NIH pathways—including LAUNCH and K43 awards—emphasizing how protected research time and structured mentorship are the bedrock of a successful career in global health.
By exploring the necessity of international collaboration and the integration of novel technologies in diverse populations, the event underscored a core truth for our future clinicians and researchers: global health equity is not just a moral imperative, but a scientific necessity.
