Rick Bass is an award-winning author and environmental activist well known for his chronicles of wilderness. He.s been called a modern-day Thoreau. Bass has written a number of novels and works of nonfiction, including Oil Notes; Winter: Notes from Montana; and The Lost Grizzlies. His autobiographical book Why I Came West was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Award.
