Jeffrey Friedman, faculty director of the Davidson Institute’s Rosenwald Postdoctoral Fellows Program in U.S. Foreign Policy and International Security, has been promoted to Professor of Government at Dartmouth College. His promotion was approved by the Dartmouth Board of Trustees as part of a class of 28 tenure and promotion decisions across the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Friedman studies international security, foreign policy decision making, and public opinion on foreign policy. His 2023 book, The Commander-in-Chief Test: Public Opinion and the Politics of Image-Making in US Foreign Policy, draws on polling data, survey experiments, and historical cases to examine how voters assess foreign policy leadership. He also hosts the podcast for the journal International Security at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Friedman is himself a Rosenwald alumnus, having held the fellowship in 2012–13 before joining the Dartmouth faculty.
