Akiules António

2014 Dartmouth YALI Fellow
CFO and Advisor for the Chairman of the Capital Markets Commission of Angola

Born in Luanda and raised in the Netherlands, Akiules is a candid and straight talking young man - a trait that has gotten him into more trouble than he wishes to admit. When he’s not listening to good music or sampling the good food that the world has to offer, he moonlights as the CFO and Advisor for the Chairman of the Capital Markets Commission, the Financial regulator for the Angolan Market.

Akiules holds a PhD in Nuclear Physics from Delft University in the Netherlands. He holds dear to his heart the concept of leadership development, and is currently working on the design and rollout of the Angolan Leadership Institute. An initiative that seeks to build leadership capacity among young Angolans to help them cope with the rigours of the professional world, this is particularly valuable in the space where very little youth have structured guidance on how to navigate their life choices.

Akiules’s first love mathematics has taken a bit of a backseat, but he always tries to make time for his MacBook. He was selected as one of the young Africans to participate in President Barack Obama’s flagship Young African Leaders Initiative. This is where he spent the summer completing a Certificate in Business, Entrepreneurship & Design thinking at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. The summer was especially an interesting one as he was making a transition from the oil industry into finance. He does however, still serve as a board member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Akiules hopes to retire somewhere in Angola and sing in his shower for the rest of his life.
