Jocelyn Powelson

YALI Social and Cultural Intern

Jocelyn Powelson grew up in Richmond, Virginia and attended Maggie Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies. At Dartmouth, she studied Chemistry and Environmental Science and completed coursework with an emphasis on international development and global health. She is an outdoors enthusiast and has been actively involved in the Dartmouth Outing Club since her freshman year and has served as Vice President and President of the club. Jocelyn is passionate about traveling and cultural exchange, and since starting Dartmouth, she has spent a number of terms studying and working abroad, including the Chinese FSP in fall 2011, a research internship in New Zealand in winter 2012, the Environmental Studies FSP in Southern Africa in fall 2012, an internship in rural Lesotho in summer and fall 2013, and an internship in Dar es Salaam in winter and spring 2015. In August 2015, she will travel to Nepal with a Lombard Fellowship and will spend one year working there with Helen Keller International on a maternal and infant nutrition project. Jocelyn hopes in her future career to further pursue her interests in international development, health, and the environment and is keen to continue working abroad, immersing herself in different cultures, and exploring the world.
