Julie Muriuki

Julie Muriuki resides in Nairobi, Kenya and works with start-ups across Sub-Saharan Africa to get them investor ready, then connects them with investors through her company – Thelela Consulting. She also trains young African entrepreneurs at the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa with the tools to apply design thinking techniques to the challenge of starting or growing a business or non-profit.

Previously, she resided in Washington DC, but traveled frequently across Sub-Saharan Africa to provide technical and program management support to four partners of the Vital Voices Africa Businesswomen’s Network (ABWN) to develop and share their messages for change in the areas of women's access to public procurement opportunities in Kenya, women's leadership in the private sector in Nigeria and South Africa, and food & security in Uganda. She has also consulted with Dalberg Global Development Advisors in Kenya, Raising Voices in Uganda and the United Nations Development Programme in Tanzania in the areas of private sector financing for low income schools, gender equality through preventative approaches to ending gender based violence against women, and capacity building and program evaluation for public institutions.  

Julie holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a Concentration in International Public Service and Development from Rutgers University, and a Bachelor of Social Science in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. She enjoys traveling, meeting new people and immersing herself in different cultures. She’s currently exploring Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Aside from traveling, Julie also enjoys giving back to her community and is an active Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Hurlingham in Nairobi.
