Kai Michael Kenkel

Visiting Scholar, Initiative for Global Security

A Visiting Scholar with the Initiative for Global Security for the 22-23 academic year, Kai comes to Dartmouth from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, where he is an Associate Professor with its Institute for International Relations, and the founding director of its Center on Democracy and the Armed Forces. He works on issues related to humanitarian intervention, such as UN peace operations and the Responsibility to Protect principle, particularly as they affect states and populations in the Global South. He is further interested in civil-military relations in societies in transition to democracy, and the humanitarian effects of small arms proliferation.
