Anya joins the Davidson Institute for Global Security at Dartmouth after spending five years in a wide range of positions with the U.S. Department of State, having most recently served as a Country Coordinator for Near East Affairs in the Office of Foreign Assistance Oversight. Prior to this role, she spent three years in the Bureau of International Narcotics & Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in a variety of roles, including as a Foreign Affairs Officer managing an aid portfolio supporting justice sector reform and rule of law initiatives in Ukraine. During this time, she also served on a temporary duty assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv as Justice Sector Officer.
Anya started her career at the State Department as an intern in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, first in the Office of Central Europe, and later supported the Office of Russian Affairs. Prior to joining State, she held positions at foreign policy-think tanks, including the Center for National Interest and the Woodrow Wilson Center, and previously worked as a Research Assistant at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Anya has also held internships at the Department of Treasury, Massachusetts Statehouse, and Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training.
Anya received her Master’s of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown, where she was the President of the Professionals in Russian, East European and Eurasian Affairs, and wrote her capstone on Arctic security. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Russian from University of Vermont, participating in the Russian Language Study Abroad Program in St. Petersburg, Russia, and serving as Captain of UVM’s NCAA Division I Track and Field Team.
