Sean Ashley

Sean's research explores (1) the legacies of war and mass mobilization and (2) authoritarian survival in the post-Cold War era, with a regional focus on Africa and the Global South. He has received generous research and writing support from the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs and the Harvard Program on Negotiation.

As a Dickey Fellow, Sean will primarily focus on converting his dissertation research into a book. As a secondary focus, he plans on advancing a developing project on the contemporary survival of authoritarian elites and how they manage to deflect, blunt and undermine international efforts to promote democracy.
