2023 Bosworth Awards

The Bosworth Award is given in honor of Stephen W. Bosworth '61, a three-time U.S. ambassador who helped shepherd the transition to democracy in the Philippines after the decades-long rule of Ferdinand E. Marcos and later sought to defuse the nuclear threat in North Korea. He served as U.S. ambassador to Tunisia, the Philippines, and South Korea, and under President Obama as special envoy to North Korea. He later served as dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. At the time of his death in 2016 he was chairman of the U.S.-Korea Institute at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. 

The prizes are funded through the Robert Frost Endowment fund, which was the Class of '61 project leading up to their 60th reunion.

At a ceremony at Dartmouth College on June 1st, Chris Bosworth (first wife of Ambassador Bosworth) will present the awards, joined by some of her late husband's classmates from the class of '61. 

This Year's Prize Winners

Juliette Courtine '24 from New London, NH, is a Biology and Native American and Indigenous Studies double major. She writes and edits for the Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science, shadows at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, volunteers as a Dick's House student liaison, and is a Global Health Fellow. She has engaged in research on tuberculosis diagnostic testing through a Dartmouth/Baylor University partnership, and conducted last mile (vulnerable) population research with Dr. Lisa Adams at the Center for Global Health Equity at Geisel school of Medicine at Dartmouth.

Rujuta Pandit '24 from Northbrook, IL, majoring in Engineering Sciences modified with Public Policy and a minor in International Studies. She is a Vice President and Project Leader for Dartmouth Humanitarian Engineering, a Senior Editor at World Outlook, and a War & Peace Fellow. Her interests are in the intersection of science, technology, and conflict resolution, particularly in how the climate crisis interacts with security dilemmas. In the fall of 2022, Rujuta interned at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, focusing on net-zero emissions supply chains. She has also interned at the Federation of American Scientists Day One Project as a Rockefeller Center First-Year Fellow, editing and writing science- and technology-related policy proposals. 

Federico Cigolot '24 from Udine, in Northeastern Italy, He is an Economics and International Studies major with a keen interest in international security, economic statecraft, and European politics. He has worked as an Undergraduate Advisor, International Student Mentor, and Dartmouth Economics Research Scholar. He is a Dickey Center War & Peace Fellow, and a member of Dartmouth Club Gymnastics. Federico is currently interning as a research assistant at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington DC, as part of the Government Department Domestic Study Program. 

Wenhan Sun '24 from Kansas City, MO, He is a Geography major minoring in Public Policy and International Studies. He is a Great Issues Scholar Mentee and later mentor, and Involved with the Outing Club, the Aegis, the Dartmouth College Fund, and Sigma Nu. He is part of the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna's Public Affairs Section, covering American representation in multilateral diplomacy. Wenhan recently completed a State Department public affairs internship with the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia and served as a Dickey Center Intern with Terra Firma, a non-profit refugee organization based out of Athens, Greece. Wenhan is currently on a study abroad program for Geography in Prague, Czech Republic.
