Building Divides

Seeds of Peace is a nonprofit organization that develops courageous leaders who work in solidarity across differences to create more just and inclusive societies through social, economic, and political change. This internship is an opportunity to adapt Seeds of Peace methodology for dialogue and conflict transformation to create structural, cultural, or curricular mechanisms that can help bridge differences and divides at Dartmouth and university campuses more widely. Informed through interviews and first hand experience at Seeds of Peace programming, selected students will produce a series of recommendations to university and Seeds of Peace leadership for how to bridge divides and create opportunity for dialogue across difference on campus.

Format

Selected Dickey Center internship students will attend the Seeds of Peace South Asia Regional Camp in Dubai from January 2-15, 2025. There, over 40 young leaders will come together to collaborate with a diverse cohort of peers from the South Asia region, to embark on a transformative journey through dialogue. Over the course of the program, selected Dickey Center interns will support Seeds of Peace staff in running activities and workshops, work alongside our trained dialogue facilitators, and begin to better understand Seeds of Peace methodology.

Next, they will conduct a series of interviews with relevant Dartmouth faculty, administrators, and students; Seeds of Peace leadership, staff, and alumni; and practitioners in dialogue and peacebuilding field.

Upon the conclusion of the term, present recommendations on what interventions at Dartmouth should be used to bridge differences and divides to be piloted in the spring

Seeds of Peace Summer Internships (Coming Soon!)

Seeds of Peace internships offer an unparalleled opportunity to work with youth and educators from conflict regions and to learn about peace-building and conflict resolution first-hand.

For the past 30 years, Seeds of Peace has been the leading organization working with youth in areas of conflict around the world.  Through our research-tested programs of dialogue, leadership development and community action, we are helping new generations of youth to imagine and build a more just and peaceful future in their societies around the world.

Seeds of Peace currently operates in Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, India, Pakistan, the US and the UK, with regional programs that address deep divides within each society (race, religion, class, politics).  Our global programs connect youth from different regions, allowing young people to interact with peers on the "other side" of the conflict – to break down stereotypes and fears, form relationships of partnership and solidarity, and learn skills to address the dynamics of conflict and injustice that affect their lives.

This Summer Internship invites Dartmouth students to join the Seeds of Peace team at our flagship Camp in Maine and an immersive visit to one of our regional program locations.
