Dr. Brendan Griebel was the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Arctic Studies. His focus is on cultural anthropology and Canadian Inuit culture and language, the focus on his project being the digital return of Inuit knowledge from Dartmouth College's Vilhjalmur Stefansson Arctic Collection.
His research entailed a systematic review of the Stefansson Arctic Collection, including photographs, manuscripts, personal correspondence, and fieldnotes. His work served to return Inuit knowledge digitally to assist with contemporary cultural revitalization throguh programming and research conducted by the Inuit organization Pitquhirnikkut Ilihautiniq. His project oversaw the sourcing, digitinization, and uploading of relevant media and documents to a custom-built digital platform spefifically developed to facilitate Inuit access to and reinterpretation of Inuit collections from museums and archives around the world.
