Fulbright Project Description:
The rapidly evolving transboundary science and policy challenges related to the opening of Arctic fisheries represent a growing governance challenge for government agencies in Canada, USA and the other Arctic Ocean coastal states (Perry and Andersen, 2012; Shephard et al., 2016). As noted by Pan and Huntington (2016), the policy questions surrounding Arctic fisheries serve to highlight the core need for cooperative governance of the Arctic, and the importance of the relations among Arctic states, between Arctic and non-Arctic states and between states and other non-state actors. Gordon's Fulbright research project seeks to better understand the ways in which Arctic fisheries stakeholders are approaching transboundary governance challenges in a context of extreme information deficit; how different inter-dependencies are driving their need to form strategic alliance networks; and how they might subsequently collaborate and integrate knowledge in order to ensure the sustainability of Arctic marine fish and fisheries in the future.
