I am interested in ecological questions related to aquatic food webs, cyanobacteria, cyanotoxins, and lake water quality in the northeastern U.S. and in the Arctic. Central themes of my research include understanding how cyanobacteria and their toxins influence food webs and understanding potential routes of human and animal exposure to cyanotoxins in diverse environments, from temperate to polar ecosystems. My research also involves using remote sensing tools such as satellites to study lake water quality at broad spatial and temporal scales. I enjoy working with local lake associations and other stakeholders to help develop ways to incorporate remote sensing and other tools into of lake monitoring programs.
