Of course the first thing to pop into my mind was the beautiful landscapes and visiting this new country, but once I heard about the other students I was excited to learn about the different cultures and to practice my English. I also really looked forward to learning about the Geology and going to Summit. I was pretty much excited about everything.
I really like drawing and painting, but in the past I mostly focused on drawing people. I have a really hard time drawing landscapes. When I heard that I was going to travel to Greenland I made it a goal to really learn how to draw landscapes well. I practiced really seeing the natural beauty and not having my mind fill in spaces. I do not think I have directly gotten better at drawing landscapes, but I have learned about myself. Whenever I hike I always looked at my feet and thinking of my surroundings as just background noise. I have really tried to stop throughout this experience take a breath and take in the details. This is always the first step in both science and art. It is all about observation.
