Justice in Motion is a non-profit advocacy organization with the mission of protecting migrant rights across borders through litigation support and policy advocacy. At the core of this mission is the belief that all migrants should be treated fairly and should have access to justice, and that in today's globalized world, cross-border partnerships within civil society are essential to realize fair treatment and justice for migrants. Justice in Motion's innovative programming includes managing a network of human rights defenders in Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Remote Internship Opportunity

Policy Research Internship

The Policy Research Intern will work under the supervision of the Policy Advocacy Manager on projects that will support policy advocacy to promote justice across borders, achieve greater transparency in the temporary foreign worker visa system, and create educational materials on transnational justice for a wide audience. Justice in Motion is looking for a candidate who is seeking research and writing experience in the dynamic fields of transnational litigation and labor migration policy advocacy throughout Mexico and Central America.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research on federal visa regulations and statistics to update Visa Pages, the national resource on nonimmigrant work visas in the U.S.
  • Actualizing visa specific reports, check references, and for relevant case developments
  • Assisting with research, editing and proofreading of all visas in the Visa Pages
  • Supporting other policy department projects

Relevant Experience and Qualifications

  • Has an interest in federal immigration policy and worker/migrant/immigrant rights
  • Has access to a laptop and internet connection during work hours for duration of internship
  • Strong research and writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to maintain deadlines
  • Ability to work in a diverse and fast-paced work environment

Internship Specifics

Location: Virtual

Duration: 8-10 weeks. 30-40 hours a week during Spring term. (number of hours per week as well as start and end dates can be flexible based on candidate)

February 24th, 2021

Funding

The standard grant for a remote internship is $1500, meant to help defray expenses while student is engaged in internship opportunity.

To be eligible for funding you must have an "L term" status with the college.

Candidates may indicate preference for up to three potential internship sites during a single application cycle and are required to answer a short supplemental question for each site. An application is considered INCOMPLETE if it does not include ALL items listed below.
