Dr. Marnina Gonick is Professor of Education and Women and Gender Studies at Mount St. Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. She was Canada Research Chair in Gender from 2007-2017. Her research has been published in journals such as: Qualitative Inquiry, Feminist Media Studies, and Girlhood Studies. She is the author of three books. She is currently Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College.

This presentation explores a series of participatory arts research projects with Inuit girls in the Canadian North. Recognizing the need to encourage and increase youth participation in discussions about  the structural violence(s) shaping their lives, this presentation explores how participatory art-making may be used to contribute to community dialogue and social change.

Presented by the Institute of Arctic Studies at the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding, Dean of Faculty, Canada Fulbright, and the Canadian Consulate of Boston.
