IACN-Dartmouth Internship

The Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network (IACN) supports Arctic cooperation through providing consultations, organizing and co-organizing Arctic-related events, and by collaborating with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Iceland to support Icelandic Arctic activities. The IACN additionally works toward supporting Iceland's role in the Arctic Council. Its vital work centers gender equality within and beyond the organization, engaging in numerous projects to faciliate gender equality throughout the region. Domestic and international members of this organization include institutions, governments, municipalities, and associations across the Arctic.

The IACN undertakes a variety of tasks in diverse projects, which would be reflected in the diversity of activities the intern may assist with. These tasks would include assiting with the organization of conference sessions, webinars, workshops, and stakeholder meetings, as well as in maintaining the online presence of the network via social media management, newsletters, and website management. Depending on the intern period, the intern may also be expected to partake in conferences and workshops. This internship takes place in Akureyri, Iceland.

This internship is ideal for students with an interest in networking in the Arctic, building connections through partner organizations, and facilitiating collaborative projects between different groups. Collaborator organizations include the Arctic Youth Network, the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna Arctic Working Group Research Institution, and more.

Details & Requirements

LOCATION: Akureyri, Iceland

DURATION: 8-10 weeks 

FUNDING: The standard award given for internships requiring travel is up to $5,500.

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for funding, you must have an "L term" (Leave Term) status with the College.

Budget

  • Standard funding available for travel-based internships is $5,500. If expenses are higher than the standard award amount please specify and articulate where additional funds are needed. Consideration will be given on a case-by-case basis. Please provide detail in the budget outline.

Supervisor Statement

  • Applicants must ask their host organizations to complete the Supervisor Statement, which verifies your offer of internship and includes a description of the work to be completed.

Recommendation(s)

Requests for recommendations are made directly through the application link. Please begin your application and use the links provided to invite recommenders to complete an online form

  • One recommendation must come from a Dartmouth faculty member

  • A second recommendation is suggested, but not required. Secondary recommendations can come from previous employers, advisors, staff, or an additional faculty member. 

Writing Sample:

  • This should be a research paper, opinion piece, newsletter article, narrative paper, blog post or creative essay that demonstrates your writing/research skills. Sample should be 1-3 pages in length.

Your application will be considered incomplete if it does not include all items listed above.
